Custom Competitor Tracking

Control which competitors are scanned for each product. By default, every product is scanned against all your workspace competitors. With custom competitor tracking, you can narrow scans to only the retailers that matter for specific products.

How It Works

Every workspace has a set of workspace competitors — the retailers and marketplaces you track across all your products. When a scan runs, each product is searched against these competitors to find matching listings and prices.

Competitor overrides let you change this behaviour on a per-product basis. Instead of scanning all workspace competitors, you can specify exactly which competitors to search for a particular product.

🌐 Workspace defaults (most products)

Product is scanned against all competitors in your workspace. This is the default behaviour and requires no configuration.

🎯 Custom selection (per-product override)

Product is scanned against only the competitors you choose. All other competitors are skipped for this product during scans.

Why Customize Competitors?

Customizing competitors on a per-product basis is useful in several common scenarios:

🏪 Niche products

Some products are only sold by a few specific retailers. Scanning irrelevant competitors wastes scan time and creates noise in your results. Limit the scan to retailers that actually stock the item.

⚡ Faster scans

Reducing the number of competitors per product means faster scan completion. If you have a large catalog, this can significantly speed up your scheduled scans.

🎯 Focused analysis

When you know exactly which retailers compete on a specific product, you can focus your price intelligence on the competitors that actually matter for pricing decisions.

💰 Cost efficiency

Each competitor scan uses API credits. By limiting scans to relevant competitors, you optimise credit usage and get more value from your subscription.

Setting Custom Competitors for a Product

To customise which competitors are scanned for a specific product:

1

Open the product edit drawer

Navigate to Products and click the edit icon (pencil) on the product you want to customise. This opens the product edit drawer on the right side of the screen.
2

Find the Competitor Tracking section

Scroll down in the edit drawer to find the Competitor Tracking card. By default, it shows "Use workspace defaults" — meaning all workspace competitors are scanned.
3

Switch to "Custom selection"

Click the Custom selection radio button. A list of all your workspace competitors will appear with checkboxes.
4

Select your competitors

Check the boxes next to the competitors you want to scan for this product. Only checked competitors will be included when this product is scanned. You can select as many or as few as you need.
5

Save your changes

Click Save to apply the change. The next time this product is scanned (whether scheduled or ad-hoc), only your selected competitors will be searched.

Visual indicator

Products with custom competitor overrides show a badge or indicator in the product catalog, making it easy to identify which products have non-default competitor settings.

Bulk Editing Competitor Overrides

When you need to set the same competitor overrides for multiple products at once, use the bulk edit feature.

1

Select products

In the Products page, use the checkboxes to select the products you want to update. You can filter or search first to find the relevant products.
2

Open bulk edit

Click the Bulk Edit button that appears in the bottom bar after selecting products.
3

Choose Competitor Overrides action

In the bulk edit dialog, enable the Competitor Overrides action by checking its checkbox. Choose one of the following:

Set custom competitors

Select Set, then check the competitors you want. All selected products will be updated to scan only the chosen competitors.

Clear overrides

Select Clear to remove any custom competitor settings. The selected products will return to using workspace defaults (all competitors).

4

Apply changes

Review the summary and click Apply Changes. All selected products will be updated immediately.

Resetting to Workspace Defaults

To revert a product back to scanning all workspace competitors:

Single product

Open the product edit drawer, go to the Competitor Tracking section, and switch back to Use workspace defaults. Save the change.

Multiple products

Select products in bulk, open the bulk edit dialog, enable the Competitor Overrides action, choose Clear, and apply. All selected products will return to workspace defaults.

How Scans Use Competitor Overrides

When a scan runs (either scheduled or ad-hoc), the scanning engine resolves competitors for each product individually:

1

The engine picks up a product from the scan queue.

2

It checks whether the product has competitor overrides set.

3a

If custom competitors are set: Only those competitors are searched. All others are skipped.

3b

If no overrides: All workspace competitors are searched (the default behaviour).

4

Results are saved and visible in the product's price history and comparison views.

Good to know

Competitor overrides apply to both scheduled scans and ad-hoc scans. If a product has custom competitors set, those overrides are always respected regardless of how the scan was triggered.

Combine with scan profiles

Competitor overrides and scan profiles work together. A product's scan profile controls when it is scanned, while competitor overrides control which retailers are searched. You can configure both independently.
